Welcome!

Welcome to the webpage of the Columbia University Philosophy Outreach Program, a collaborative outreach initiative started by graduate students from the Department of Philosophy at Columbia University and the Philosophy and Education Program of Teachers College, Columbia University.  Here you will find information about our Outreach programs as well as our wider initiative to promote the benefits of pre-college instruction of philosophy.

We believe that the practice of philosophy can help cultivate skills and capacities which are invaluable to academic, vocational, social and personal endeavors.  As a result, we are interested in not only bringing philosophy to more students at the pre-college level, but also in analyzing and pursuing research capable of justifying this belief that motivates what we do.

Our outreach programs engage students in both public and independent school settings, where we tailor our offerings to the needs, interests, and current abilities of the students at each school.  We believe this approach is the key to making our programs as engaging and challenging for the students as they are for our volunteers.

We are volunteers from the Columbia University community and we are working with schools around New York City.

The Columbia University Philosophy Outreach is supported by the Squire Foundation, the Department of Arts and Humanities at Columbia Teachers College, and the Columbia University GSAS Teaching Center.
